``Zik''

So you want to know where the name "Zik" comes from? You're not alone - most people ask me this same stupid question within seconds of meeting me. So you can rest assured that you are about as original as the next man, and that I'm truly sick of answering this question.

Firstly I should point out that although I was christened "Michael" shortly after my birth, I have been known as "Zik" by most people since I was seven years old. In order to reduce confusion I more recently had my name officially changed to "Zik Michael Graeme Saleeba".

To aid in your understanding the genesis of my name it may help to know that I am decended from partly Arab stock. Some have commented that the shape of my nose reflects camel blood in my ancestry, but I vehemently deny this.

Also interesting is the fact that I am partially decended from American Indian stock, of the Mohican tribe. Did you know that in the Mohican tongue "Zik" means `to spit vehemently'? Neither did I until recently, and I should add that it has absolutely nothing to do with my ending up with the name.

Oh yeah, I rarely tell anyone else the real reason why I'm called "Zik", either.

:-P
